Travertine is a naturally porous, sedimentary material created when minerals are deposited from hot water inside the earth. Because raw travertine has visible openings in the surface, it can be filled during the manufacturing process, and given a honed or polished finish. Or...you can buy travertine with tumbled edges or a brushed finish that will become filled when you grout the installed tiles.

These two styles look quite different when installed. Honed and filled travertine has sharp edges that allow narrow grout lines, for a clean modern appearance. Tumbled travertine will have wider grout lines, so your project will look more rustic or southwestern or Mediterranean. With tumbled travertine, you have the opportunity to adjust the appearance and coloration of the travertine when you install it, by choosing a lighter or darker grout.  Look at the different appearances with different finishes and grout colors when you come into our store and see travertine products.
